Mustafa Alibhai, MD

Dr. Mustafa Alibhai attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he obtained his Bachelors of Science in Biology. During this time, he remained an active member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medical Society and was nominated into the Mortar Board Honor Society during his senior year. After graduating in 2004, he went to medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where he successfully completed medical school and his residency training in General Surgery in 2014. Following residency, Dr. Alibhai completed his fellowship at the Bariatric Medical Institute of Texas in San Antonio. Board certified in surgery, Dr. Alibhai joined Surgical Group of North Texas in 2016.

In addition to practicing General Surgery, Dr. Alibhai’s areas of interest and specialty care also include surgical and medical weight loss, treating benign and malignant conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, surgery of the esophagus and stomach, anti-reflux surgery, hiatal hernias, ulcer disease, and hernias of the abdominal wall. His research interests are pain reduction after surgery, improvement of bariatric surgical outcomes, and preventative medicine. His goal is to provide the best patient care possible for his patients. He incorporates the most advanced surgical techniques and technology to optimize patient outcomes.

Dr. Alibhai’s professional and academic careers are extensive. Prior to joining Surgical Group of North Texas, he was in practice in Houston and served as Assistant Professor of Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UT Health taking an active role in resident and fellow education and research activities.  Since joining Surgical Group of North Texas, Dr. Alibhai has developed a practice in Las Colinas focusing on minimally invasive bariatric surgery and general surgery.  He is involved in the leadership for Las Colinas Medical Center’s Weight & Wellness Center, as well as active staff at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Grapevine and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Irving.

Dr. Alibhai grew up in the heart of west Texas where hospitality is a way of life. He brings this warm and welcoming aspect in caring for his patients. He has also spent several years studying abroad at Al-Jamea-tus-Saifiyah and is fluent in six languages which include Hindi, Gujarati, Arabic, Swahili, Spanish and Urdu. He has traveled to several countries around the world experiencing different cultures. Extensive travel has allowed him to co-organize and manage several specialized clinics dealing with diabetes awareness and testing in various international locations. Along with his deep passion for medicine, Dr. Alibhai also enjoys being an active member of his community and spending time with his wife, three children and friends.
