Dr. Nathan Emerson  Completes the 1st Two TIF procedures at HCA Medical City Alliance

Brings extensive experience in General Surgery, including specialized training in an endoscopic reflux surgery.

(August 23, 2017) Grapevine, TX –  Dr. Nathan Emerson of Surgical Group of North Texas completed the 1st two TIF procedures at HCA Medical City Alliance in Fort Worth, TX.

The TIF (transoral incisionless fundoplication) procedure is an effective solution for chronic acid reflux. It is a minimally invasive treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) that is performed in the outpatient setting. The TIF procedure is performed from inside the patient’s stomach without incisions and delivers patient outcomes similar to those provided by conventional ARS procedures. However, it is less invasive, has fewer adverse effects, and does not limit future treatment options. Following the principles of ARS, the TIF procedure repairs the anti-reflux barrier by reducing a hiatal hernia (≤ 2 cm), and creating a valve 2 to 4 cm in length and greater than 270 degree circumferential wrap, thus restoring the dynamics of the angle of His.

Dr. Emerson is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is an experienced general surgeon capable of performing the full range of operations in the specialty as well as advanced laparoscopic techniques. He has a special interest in endoscopic reflux surgery. And is specially trained to perform transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), an innovative procedure that restores the body’s natural protection against esophageal reflux. Many patients suffer from heartburn and regurgitation despite adequate medical therapies. The TIF operation is an effective and safe procedure with minimal complication rates for those patients with difficulty controlling the symptoms of reflux.

Prior to joining the Surgical Group of North Texas, he practiced in Massachusetts for six years.
